Dia De Los Muertos at City Club Los Angeles

Holly Gray

Happy Halloween!

As an Event Planner there are thousands upon thousands of ideas, themes and styles that run through my head. I find that I get a lot of my creativity through my dreams. Yep, dreams! I literally dream in technicolor and have an incredibly vivid and photographic memory. It made nightmares a a child even more bed-wetting! HA! For better or worse it is a kind of awesome special skill that has become very handy in my professional life.

I try to stay away from the "trends". I like the "different" and off the wall. The more, I can surprise, the better. I like to use mixed colors, textures, patterns and concepts together to creative unexpected twists

I want my guests to really step into a different world through taste, smell and touch. This is what makes an event more like an experience.

Predictability can take a back seat when it comes to my events.....  Sooooo, when PR Maven and my #girlbosscrush, Jeannie Ward, of 3 Wishes PR asks you to design an event at City Club Los Angeles for 40 wedding planners, you jump for joy like you just got a pogo stick on Christmas!

For those of you who have not see it, City Club Los Angeles is gorgeous. It's modern and slick space reflects the stylizing of it's surrounding Downtown LA backdrop. The jewelry, theater/arts, and banking districts are showcased in its design. Every last detail is thought of including it's custom-made carpet in the pattern on the local freeways.

The ballroom is massive with floor to ceiling windows surrounding on 3 sides to reveal the glowing glimmer of DTLA from the 51st floor. It truly takes your breath away. The obvious choice to to go modern but as I mentioned before, I am the kind of planner that likes to flip it around, cut it in half and change it up a bit

As an LA native, Dia De Los Muertos is special to me. As I child I remember going down to Olvera street to buy sugar skulls and colorful paper hangings to celebrate! That being said, I could not have brought this vision to life with out the help and tireless efforts of this talented group of vendors. All of these incredible talents brought Dia De Los Muertos to life. Pun intended! Check out the slideshow below (photos courtesy of Joan Fuller Photography).
